A magnetic metal–organic framework nanocomposite (magnetic MIL-68(Ga)) was synthesized through a “one pot” reaction and used for heavy metal ion removal. The morphology and elemental properties of the nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), as well as zeta potential. Moreover, the factors affecting the adsorption capacity of the nanocomposite, including time, pH, metal ion type and concentration, were studied. It was found that the adsorption capacity of magnetic MIL-68(Ga) for Pb2+ and Cu2+ was 220 and 130 mg/g, respectively. Notably, the magnetic adsorbents could be separated easily using an external magnetic field, regenerated by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA-Na2) and reused three times, in favor of practical application. This study provides a reference for the rapid separation and purification of heavy metal ions from wastewater.

Mercury is one of the most dangerous environmental pollutants. In this work, we analysed the effects of exposure of Mytilus galloprovincialis to 1, 10 and 100 pM HgCl2 for 24 h on the gonadal morphology and on the expression level of three stress genes: mt10, hsp70 and πgst. In this tissue we also evaluated the level of steroidogenic enzymes 3β-HSD and 17β-HSD and the expression of PL protein genes. Finally, we determined difference in sperm chromatin accessibility to micrococcal nuclease. We found alterations in gonadal morphology especially after exposure to 10 and 100 pM HgCl2 and hypo-expression of the three stress genes, particularly for hsp70. Furthermore, decreased labelling with both 3β-HSD and 17β-HSD antibodies was observed following exposure to 1 and 10 pM HgCl2 and complete absence at 100 pM HgCl2 exposure. Gonads of mussels exposed to all HgCl2 doses showed decreased expression of PL protein genes especially for PLIII. Finally, micrococcal nuclease digestions showed that all doses of HgCl2 exposure resulted in increased sperm chromatin accessibility to this enzyme, indicative of improper sperm chromatin structure. All of these changes provide preliminary data of the potential toxicity of mercury on the reproductive health of this mussel.

Aloe vera has been widely used for various therapeutic purposes over the millennia. It is becoming increasingly popular due to its antiviral and antibacterial qualities. For many years, aloe vera has been employed in biomedical research. It's a fantastic way to boost the nutritional value of any food product. This research aims to expand on the nutritional value of cookies by including Aloe vera gel. It would focus on the substance's biological and pharmacological characteristics. The nutritional quality of aloe vera cookies was evaluated after being manufactured with all-natural, chemical-free ingredients. The primary objective was to investigate its functional properties, sensory characteristics, and quality characterization. Quality control was performed on aloe vera cookies, and the results were discussed. The process is quick and straightforward, and it comes at a reasonable cost that boosts nutrient content, but it can also be utilized as a part of a well-balanced diet. Because of its beneficial characteristics, aloe vera-based cookies could be particularly beneficial for most vulnerable groups in underdeveloped countries.
