HDRM: A hole detection and recovery method in wireless sensor network

Abstract: Summary Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of many sensor nodes, gathering data from the environment and sending it to base station (BS). One of the major challenges in WSNs is coverage maintenance. Since batteries provide sensor nodes' energy, battery depletion leads to the death of sensor nodes; when several nodes are dead, connectivity is lost, and network coverage fails. This paper proposed a method consisting of two phases to provide and maintain coverage in WSNs. In the first phase, hole detection i… Show more

“…Finally, the holes are recovered using mobile nodes using the grasshopper optimization algorithm. In [37], Papi and Barati introduced a method to maintain coverage in WSNs. The proposed method is composed of two phases: the first phase aims to detecting holes through a simple distributed method by which each node explores whether there are holes around it or not.…”

“…For reducing energy requirements, clusterbased routing protocols were designed (Papi, & Barati, 2022). But for cluster-based routing protocols, the main issue is to create clusters and select cluster heads to minimize the energy required for regular updation (Shahbaz, Barati, & Barati, 2021;Sharifi, & Barati, 2021;Yousefpoor, Barati, & Barati, 2021).…”
