HDAC1 (histone deacetylase 1)

Abstract: HDAC1 is a Class I histone deacetylase (HDACs) encoded by this gene. HDACs remove acetyl group from amino-terminal tail of histone lysine recovering the positive charge of histone tail, permitting interactions between negatively charged DNA and histone protein, resulting in chromatin structure condensation which is associated with gene repression.
