“…Moreover, out of the six seropositive individuals among the HD group, three had HCV viraemia, while none of the controls had HCV viraemia (p=0.081). These findings indicate significantly lower HCV seropositivity rates among HD subjects in Jordan compared with previous studies; HCV seropositivity rates of 28% and 34.6% in 2009 and 2002, respectively, among HD subjects,9 14compared with 0.42% among the general population in 2013 10. This improvement is likely attributable to the better application of HCV screening for donated blood in blood banks, a protocol that was introduced by the Jordanian ministry of health as of 1995, and also likely to the more efficient compliance in application of universal infection control precautions, such as the disinfection of HD machines 15.…”

“…Lot of studies explain that the possibility of liver carcinogenesis, despite null replication of HCV, by other pathways. (29)(30)(31) Our data confirms that clearing the viral replication and obtaining SVR does correlate with normalization in liver function tests, as shown in other studies, (32,33) where 100% of our SVR patients had normal Liver tests during the whole period of follow up.…”

“…All HCV RNA positive individuals in Jordan were infected by a single strain ( S6B Fig ), with 57.7% carrying genotype 4 and 42.3% carrying genotype 1 ( Table 5 ) [ 68 , 103 , 111 , 112 ]. Subtypes 1a and 1b were isolated, respectively, from 54.5% and 45.5% of infected persons with genotype 1.…”
