Harnessing innate immune pathways for therapeutic advancement in cancer

Ankang Hu,
Li Sun,
Hao Lin
et al.

Abstract: The innate immune pathway is receiving increasing attention in cancer therapy. This pathway is ubiquitous across various cell types, not only in innate immune cells but also in adaptive immune cells, tumor cells, and stromal cells. Agonists targeting the innate immune pathway have shown profound changes in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and improved tumor prognosis in preclinical studies. However, to date, the clinical success of drugs targeting the innate immune pathway remains limited. Interestingly, recen… Show more

“…Conversely, in other situations, IL-17 has been shown to have anti-tumorigenic effects like enhancing the recruitment and activation of immune cells, such as cytotoxic T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, which can recognize and eliminate tumor cells. IL-17 can also stimulate the production of anti-tumor cytokines, such as interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), which has potent anti-tumor activity [79,80]. Additionally, IL-17 has been implicated in promoting the formation of tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) within tumors, which can facilitate an effective anti-tumor immune response [81].…”
