“…In yet another approach, Yu et al used a thulium-based agent with a DO3A core, a pyridine chelate, and a perfluoro-tert-butyl tag which was only visible by 19 F NMR in the presence of Zn 2+ . The authors concluded that this signal results from slower chemical exchange upon Zn 2+ binding, which leads to a rigid conformation of the Zn 2+ chelator [ 68 ]. Other thulium-based sensors have also been reported [ 69 ].…”

“…TmL13 (Scheme 4) functions as an off/on probe for Zn 2+ detection. [23] In the absence of Zn 2+ , the system is highly flexible and no 19 F signal is observed. Upon Zn 2+ coordination, one major and three minor signals appear corresponding to different diastereoisomers of the probe.…”

“…Responsive paramagnetic complexes have also flourished, particularly based on transition metal ions for redox or pH sensing [80]. Recently, a Tm 3+ complex, TmPFZ-1 bearing nine fluorine atoms on the DPA moiety was developed by Que et al (Figure 11) [81]. In the absence of Zn 2+ , the system is highly flexible and the probe is not detectable by 19 F MRI.…”
