Harmonious coexistence solution between stand‐alone LTE and WiFi in unlicensed band

Abstract: To fulfill the large spectrum requirements in the 5th‐Generation (5G) systems. The Third‐Generation Partnership Project has defined licensed assisted access (LAA) to extend its spectrum pool to unlicensed band. However, for these operators without licensed spectrum (eg, virtual operators), stand‐alone Long‐Term Evolution (LTE) in unlicensed band may be a more appealing choice since LAA is only suitable to these operators who have their licensed spectrum. Similar to LAA, fair coexistence between stand‐alone LTE… Show more

“…LTE has a powerful centralized scheduling‐based MAC mechanism compared with contention‐based MAC for WiFi systems, which results in better spectral efficiency for LTE‐U systems. LTE‐U may achieve better performance with some link adaption algorithms as hybrid automatic repeat quest and UL power control . Moreover, enhanced intercell interference coordination techniques in LTE‐U can further improve the data rates.…”
