“…However, an IgG prevalence of 2% was reported in Uberlandia City in Minas Gerais State 12 , which is another hantavirus-endemic region; this is similar to the prevalence found in the present study. The IgG prevalence found in the present study is in keeping with prevalence rates in other regions where HCPS has not been described, such as in the southern parts of Santa Catarina State (2.3%) 13 , in Ceará State (2.8%) 14 , an in Ilhéus City in Bahia State (0.6%) 15 .…”

“…Our fi ndings provide new data regarding hantaviruses in the Northeastern region of Brazil because Alagoas State -as well as the neighboring states on the Northeastern coast (such as the Sergipe and Paraíba States) -is currently considered a silent area for hantavirus infection. Our results, together with those of other studies 14,15 , strongly suggest that at least one species or genotype of hantavirus is circulating in areas previously considered to be hantavirus free. Finally, our fi ndings suggest that routine testing for hantavirus infection should be included in public health systems in the Northeastern states of Brazil as HCPS is probably misdiagnosed in this region.…”

“…However, Behera, et al, considered a patient who was positive for the ELISA to be a case of co-infection, showing anti-dengue and antiLeptospira antibodies (27). Thirty-five patients remained without a specific laboratory diagnosis, suggesting that they had been infected by other (28)(29)(30).…”

“…It is possible that most of the infections in Sinop, especially those manifesting as mild forms of the disease, might remain undiagnosed. In dengueendemic areas, such as Sinop, fever due to other arboviruses or even hantaviruses can be misdiagnosed as dengue based only on clinical-epidemiological data (2) (8) . Taking this into account, it is important to screen for hantavirus in acute febrile illness patients using rapid and sensitive diagnostic methods.…”
