Handover Decision for V2V Communication in VANET Based on Moving Average Slope of RSS

Abstract: In a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), the nodes have very high mobility and hence, it is an important challenge to maintain the quality of communication. Due to the mobility, the vehicle nodes should perform handover from one infrastructure to another. Thus, the better quality of signal can be obtained. In vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication, the nodes may experience more frequent handover than in vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication. Frequent handover can aggravate the networks especially in rout… Show more

“…For example, at the handover trigger point of 450 ft, the U-shaped and S-shaped values are 2.4 seconds and 2.7 seconds, respectively. In contrast, the CVHO-RSS [50] and CVHO-BW [49] schemes experience a higher delay (i.e., 2.9 and 3.5 seconds, respectively).…”

“…From the 5-day average to the 10-day average and then to the 20-day average, the curve is getting smoother and smoother. While the inflection point is not so obvious, the general shape of the three averages is basically consistent with the trend [7].This is actually because the longer the cycle [8], the more inclusive the running data is to the overall data, the smoother the curve is naturally; But it's the same data, and no matter how you average it, the shape of the curve doesn't change much.…”

“…Vehicle-to-vehicle commute, as one of the key technologies of intelligent transportation system, uses the transmission unit mounted on the Vehicle to receive and send signals through high-speed wireless network, and can exchange operation data between vehicles,V2V technology can make the vehicles in operation realize interaction [15,16,17].Based on the V2V environment, the vehicle can take the initiative to obtain the driving information of neighboring vehicles. Through the V2V on-board communication unit, the vehicle can take corresponding operations on the traffic conditions outside the normal visual range, which will change the traditional driving behavior to a large extent [18,19,20].The change of microdriving behavior in the V2V environment will inevitably lead to new operation characteristics of macro traffic flow.…”
