Handling performance of tractor-semitrailers equipped with hydraulically interconnected suspension

Abstract: This paper focuses on the contribution of a hydraulically interconnected suspension on the handling performance of a tractor-semitrailer. A hydraulically interconnected suspension model is integrated with a traditional tractor-semitrailer suspension for the purpose of study, and the hydraulically interconnected suspension system is first investigated through the bench test simulation to study its nonlinear and damping characteristic. Then a static rollover test, a steady-state circular test, a pulse steer inpu… Show more

“…Wu et al [14] developed a kinetic dynamic suspension to achieve enhanced cooperative control of the roll and warp motion modes for on-road and off-road vehicles. Liu et al [15] integrated the HIS model with a traditional tractor-semitrailer suspension. Qi et al [16] proposed a new roll-plane HIS to enhance both roll and lateral dynamics of a two-axle bus.…”

“…2,3 Because of its adjustable damping and stiffness, low cost, and compact structure, the hydraulically interconnected suspension (HIS) system can provide greater force and torque, 4,5 and it has been applied on various of special vehicles. [6][7][8] Hence, this study applies the HIS system on the special vehicle to enhance the ride comfort and safety of the vehicle.…”

“…Tractors transiting on rough roads produce harmful vibrations that have been attributed to physical and psychological harm to drivers. [1][2][3] The vibration of tractors with agricultural equipment may also affect the driving safety, damage roads, and threaten drivers' well-being. When agricultural equipment is mounted on a tractor, the static loading on the steering front wheels decreases, causing severe vibration and substantially deteriorating the handling comfort of the tractor, possibly leading to accidents.…”
