Today’s ‘digital natives’ grew up in the age of network and digital devices. They have a completely different kind of cross-medium user experiences from the older generations. Understanding how the digital natives use e-book reader and their reading behavior will be an important issue for designing the next-generation e-book reader and mobile device. This study aims to explore how the introduction of e-book reader into high school campus influences the students’ learning and daily life. The authors found that e-book reader does help the students to develop a habit of mobile reading. Its effect exceeds our expectation of achieving digital learning. Using e-book reader, students engaged in creating new form of digital contents and became active in peer-sharing activities. Thus, they propose that when new curricula are designed, user experience with the e-book reader can be taken into account in order to maximize the potential of using the e-book reader in education.

This study proposes a novel automated course generation system embedded in an online lecturing platform to create electronic course content from online lectures for higher education. The purpose of the system is to make the e‐content development faster by synchronizing the lecturer video stream and the presentation slide, based on a series of events in real‐time, automatically. The system detects events during the online lecture, such as slide changing, cursor positioning and video quality changing, and links them to the exact position of the recorded video stream to appear as it was in the real presentation. The system implements an authoring algorithm, namely the Course Generation (CG) algorithm which allows fast and fully automatic authoring process. Furthermore, the created contents are integrated into a web‐based learning environment, which is an important step on the long way to making learning more time and space independent as a concept of Internet of Everything (IoE) in education. A practical usage of the system is also presented, which demonstrated its usefulness and effectiveness in developing e‐contents in higher education. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Many of the most complex service systems being built and imagined today combine person-to-person encounters, technology-enhanced encounters, self-service, computational services, multi-channel, multi-device, and location-based and context-aware services. This paper examines the characteristic concerns and methods for these seven different design contexts to propose a unifying view that spans them, especially when the service-system is "information-intensive." A focus on the information required to perform the service, how the responsibility to provide this information is divided between the service provider and service consumer, and the patterns that govern information exchange yields a more abstract description of service encounters and outcomes. This makes it easier to see the systematic relationships among the contexts that can be exploited as design parameters or patterns, such as the substitutability of stored or contextual information for personto-person interactions. A case study for the design of a "smart multi-channel bookstore" illustrates the use of the different design contexts as building blocks for service systems.
