Half-life ofTi44

Abstract: The half-life of Ti has been measured to be T&~2 --54.2+2. 1 yr, somewhat higher than previously published values of 46.4+1.7 and 48.2+0.9 yr. The present value was obtained from the specific activity and the radioisotope concentration of several TiOq samples, each spiked with a Ti activity of about 1.2 pCi. The specific activity was measured via the 1157 keV y line from the decay of the Sc daughter.Ti/Ti concentrations were measured with the Argonne FN tandem accelerator in conjunction with an Enge split-pole… Show more

“…Three EQUILIBRIUM measurements combine specific activity and mass spectrometry. Two of these measurements used LEMS (Wing et al 1965;Moreland & Heymann 1965), and one used AMS (Frekers et al 1983). The AMS result is in marginal agreement with the LEMS results.…”

“…A 44 Ti source of about 200 mCi was produced by the 45 Sc͑p, 2n͒ reaction using 45-MeV protons from the Juelich Isochronous Cyclotron. The details of the production and purification procedures have been described previously [8]. Using a solution of 44 Ti and a solution of 60 Co, three mixed sources of 44 Ti and 60 Co, and three pure 60 Co sources, were prepared.…”

“…The method used for the chemical separation is similar to the ones used in Refs. [14,15]. The Sc disk was dissolved in a HNO 3 ͞HCl solution and the Sc then precipitated out by the addition of HF.…”
