Haematomas After Percutaneus Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy

Abstract: The changes at the biopsy site can be seen by US in most of the patients one and three weeks after the VABB. These changes could potentially be used for US guidance and localisation of microcalcifications in patients requiring surgical biopsy.

“…Higher hematoma rates in our study compared to those of the literature may originate from the goal of excising all lesions or early periods of the follow-up ultrasound. In a study, the rate of hematoma detected by USG has been given as 94% in the 1 st week and 55% in the 3 rd week following stereotactic VABB (16). Hematomas were resorbed during follow-up and the rates of hematoma decreased in follow-up in our study, too.…”

“…Emirates (1), Britain (1), Switzerland (1), Israel (1), New Zealand (1), and Canada (1). VABB was performed using US (24) and mammography (12) location modes. In this study, it mainly used five techniques: VABB of 8-(14), 9-(1), 10-(1), 11-(24), or 14-(5) gauge Mammotome probes.…”

“…The VABB turned out to be a low-invasive technique, well tolerated by patients, effective, and with a low rate of complications. Due to the possibility of obtaining larger tissue sections, the risk of complications in the case of VABB is slightly higher than in the case of core biopsy, mainly the risk of haematoma [ 28 ]. However, among 3804 patients who underwent VABB, only 3 patients required surgical treatment of haematoma.…”
