Show more

“…In contrast to findings from other areas ( Dias et al 1989 , Gonçalves et al 1998 , 2000 , Leite et al 2010 ), more males than females of T. vitticeps were captured in Diamantina . This discrepancy may be due to population differences driven by environmental characteristics that may influence insect dispersal.…”

“…In the posterior midgut region, digestive cells had vesicles with various aspects, and they might be disperse throughout cytoplasm, as well as being released among microvilli (Figs. 16,17) and lipid droplets and hemozoin granules that are characterized by strong density to electrons (Fig. 19).…”

“…To date, available studies about the morphology of triatomines midgut are describing Rhodnius prolixus and Triatoma infestans, because of their importance as vectors for Chagas' disease. However, recent findings have warned about the risk that domiciliating some wild species such as T. vitticeps represents for public health [16,17].…”

“…In spite of the fact that triatomine vectors digest blood meals slowly (up to 10 weeks) [ 14 , 16 , 24 , 29 ], DNA-based methods for identifying blood meal sources fail in upwards of 50% of Chagas insect vectors [ 23 , 24 , 33 35 , 37 , 38 , 63 , 64 ]. In this regard, hemoglobin is a particularly stable protein and appears to last longer than DNA signatures [ 39 ].…”
