Habitable-zone super-Earth candidate in a six-planet system around the K2.5V star HD 40307

Abstract: Context. The K2.5 dwarf HD 40307 has been reported to host three super-Earths. The system lacks massive planets and is therefore a potential candidate for having additional low-mass planetary companions. Aims. We re-derive Doppler measurements from public HARPS spectra of HD 40307 to confirm the significance of the reported signals using independent data analysis methods. We also investigate these measurements for additional low-amplitude signals. Methods. We used Bayesian analysis of our radial velocities to … Show more

“…As a set of reference priors, we use those presented in Tuomi (2012) because this choice is a rather uninformative one and does not constrain the model parameters strongly (e.g. Anglada-Escudé & Tuomi 2012;Tuomi 2012;Tuomi et al 2013a). The functional forms of the priors and the limits of the respective parameter spaces of the model parameters are shown in Table 1.…”

“…In addition to these Keplerian parameters, we also include a constant reference velocity (γ), a radial velocity jitter (σ J ; amount of excess white noise in the data on top of the estimated instrument uncertainties), and a correlation coefficient between the noise of subsequent epochs (φ) as defined in e.g. Tuomi et al (2013a) and Tuomi et al (2013b).…”
