“…Should further evidence indicate that this data set (or any other) is in error, it will be a simple matter for the reader to recalculate his own average profile, omitting those results which are in doubt. Table 1 It is suggested that for modeling purposes, where fine structure variations in space or time are not required, the mean profile given in data set B of Table 1 Harries et al [1974]. Though the data are limited in quantity, there is little evidence overall to support the assumption that the dry conditions observed by Murcray are a permanent feature of north polar air.…”

“…Some of the British and French studies of the atmosphere by far-infrared emission spectroscopy have been aimed at determining the environmental effects of the supersonic, high-altitude aircraft, Concorde. These studies were made during high-altitude tests of Concorde 001 and 002 (Marten et al, 1974;Harries et al, 1974;Harries, 1973). During a tour of the Far East made by Concorde 002 in June of 1972, spectra were recorded wherever possible in order to determine the global distribution of H N 0 3 , N 0 2 , N 2 0 , S 0 2 , H 2 0 , 0 2 , and 0 3 at the flight altitude which varied from 10 to 15 km (Harries, 1973).…”

“…Most of the emission spectra obtained since about 1970 from balloon or high-altitude aircraft have been measured in the far-infrared region below 150 cm" 1 (Clark and Kendall, 1976;Harries et al, 1976;Harries et al, 1974). An example of some recently reported results from a balloon experiment is shown in Fig.…”

“…IV значения плотности двуокиси азота в нижней стратосфере находятся в грубом согласии с измерениями этой величины 40~42 . 70 . Совокупность процессов (4), (6), (13) При этом все процессы, кроме (13), приводят к переходам атомарного кис-лорода между окислами азота, а процесс (13) сопровождается гибелью атомарного кислорода и образованием молекулярного кислорода.…”
