H 2 15 O or 13 NH 3 PET and electromagnetic tomography (LORETA) during partial status epilepticus

Abstract: The authors evaluated the feasibility and source localization utility of H2(15)O or 13NH3 PET and low-resolution electromagnetic tomography (LORETA) in three patients with partial status epilepticus (SE). Results were correlated with findings from intraoperative electrocorticographic recordings and surgical outcomes. PET studies of cerebral blood flow and noninvasive source modeling with LORETA using statistical nonparametric mapping provided useful information for localizing the ictal activity in patients wit… Show more

“…For instance, excellent localization agreement has been reported in multimodal imaging studies with functional MRI (Mulert et al, 2004;Vitacco et al, 2002), structural MRI (Worrell et al, 2000), and PET (e.g. Dierks et al, 2000;Zumsteg et al, 2005). Further validation based on accepting as "ground truth" the information provided by intracranial recordings in humans has been reported in a number of papers (e.g.…”

“…The tomography sLORETA has received considerable validation from studies combining LORETA with other more established localization methods including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) (Mulert et al 2004b;Vitacco et al 2002) and positron emission tomography (Dierks et al 2000;Pizzagalli et al 2004;Zumsteg et al 2005). It is now widely used in studies involving time and frequency domain analysis (Shao et al 2012;Volpe et al 2007;Zumsteg et al 2006).…”
