H-P2PSIP: Interconnection of P2PSIP domains for global multimedia services based on a hierarchical DHT overlay network

Abstract: The IETF P2PSIP WG is currently standardising a protocol for distributed multimedia services combining the media session functionality of SIP and the decentralised distribution and localisation of resources in peer-to-peer networks. The current P2PSIP scenarios only consider the infrastructure for the connectivity inside a single domain. This paper proposes an extension of the current work to a hierarchical multi-domain scenario: a two level hierarchical peer-to-peer overlay architecture for the interconnectio… Show more

“…Paper [30] proposes an "super peer" based hierarchical architecture for interconnection among different P2PSIP domains/overlays. In order to have inter-domain connectivity, every domain should have at least one "super peer", which is the stable peer owning high system capability (e.g.…”

“…These scenarios are summarised in Table 2. We have the scenario setup that fits with our analytical model assumptions [28,31]. This fact means that all inner overlays have the same size and nodes are placed randomly over the available countries from PingER project.…”

“…However, our proposal can support any desired overlay network, which gives a great flexibility for the design of any desired service. Furthermore, it has been proved analytically that our proposal has also good scalability properties [28,31]. We suppose a logarithmic complexity of the necessary resources with respect to the number of participating nodes according to the most used peer-to-peer networks (Chord and Kademlia).…”
