The famed yet elusive H-dibaryon, an exotic quark state (uuddss), was predicted several decades ago and also supported by recent Lattice QCD calculations. The E42 experiment has been approved at J-PARC to search for the H-dibaryon with high statistics. A large acceptance hyperon spectrometer with a time projection chamber (TPC) will be used for searching the H-dibaryon from (K − , K + ) reaction off nuclei via its possible following decays such as ΛΛ. The E42 experiment has high sensitivity both above and below ΛΛ threshold and will be the definitive experiment on the existence of the H-dibaryon, once and for all. Recent progress and achievements of the E42 collaboration will be presented, which include simulations on estimation of TPC performance in the electric field and the magnetic field, testing and optimization of a prototype TPC, and preparation of various detectors.

The ΞN interaction plays an important role in understanding the long-anticipated H dibaryon. Recent lattice QCD calculations verified the attractive nature of the ΞN interaction. On the other hand, whether it is strong enough to generate a bound state remains inconclusive. In this work, assuming it can generate a weakly bound state, we study the yields of the ΞN dibaryon for different binding energies in pp collisions at 7 TeV using the coalescence model and the transport model PACIAE. The yields are estimated first numerically and then analytically, adopting a Yukawa-type wave function. In particular, we find that in the weak binding limit, there exists a universal relation between the yield and the binding energy, valid for pp collisions. We report the first lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) study of deuteron(np)-like dibaryons with heavy quark flavours. These include particles with following dibaryon structures and valence quark contents: ΣcΞcc(uucucc), ΩcΩcc(sscscc), Σ b Ξ bb (uububb), Ω b Ω bb (ssbsbb) and Ω ccb Ω cbb (ccbcbb), and with spin (J)-parity (P ), J P ≡ 1 + . Using a state-of-the art lattice QCD calculation, after controlling relevant systematic errors, we unambiguously find that the ground state masses of dibaryons ΩcΩcc(sscscc), Ω b Ω bb (ssbsbb) and Ω ccb Ω cbb (ccbcbb) are below their respective two-baryon thresholds, suggesting the presence of bound states which are stable under strong and electromagnetic interactions. We also predict their masses precisely. For dibaryons ΣcΞcc(uucucc), and Σ b Ξ bb (uububb), we could not reach to a definitive conclusion about the presence of any bound state due to large systematics associated with these states. We also find that the binding of these dibaryons becomes stronger as they become heavier in mass. This study also opens up the possibility of the existence of many other exotic nuclei, which can be formed through the fusion of heavy baryons, similar to the formation of nuclei of elements in the Periodic Table. PACS numbers: 12.38.Gc, 14.20.Lq and name them as Dq 1 q 2 , which are made of two baryons with valence quark contents (q 1 q 1 q 2 ) and (q 1 q 2 q 2 ).
