H-BPin/KOtBu Promoted Activation of Cobalt Salt to a Heterotopic Catalyst for Highly Selective Cyclotrimerization of Alkynes

Abstract: A mixture of HBPin with KO t Bu was found to activate cobalt salt to form a heterotopic cobalt species that is highly active for catalytic intermolecular trimerization of alkynes. This protocol affords 1,2,4-regioisomers in good yields with high regioselectivities under mild conditions. These salient features, together with the operational simplicity and high efficiency, as well as obviating the use of any costly and/or air sensitive ligands, renders the protocol promising for practical applications.

“…It is noteworthy here that the catalytically active surface Au atoms on a 20 nm NP account for just 5% of the total Au atoms, 30 and thus the true catalytic loading of Au in the reaction is 0.01 mol% and the turnover number (TON) of the reaction with Au@t 1 aer 5 cycles is 30 000, two orders of magnitude higher than that of any other metal NP or cluster catalyst reported so far for this reaction, either under heterogeneous or homogeneous conditions, as far as we know (Table S13 †). [31][32][33] Considering that previous studies with the Au-TiO 2 catalyst suggests that the electron-richest the Au NP is, the highest catalytic activity is found, 29,34 it is not surprising that the encapsulated Au NPs in the electron-rich MUV-10 MOF show an enhanced catalytic activity.…”
