Gysel Power Divider Realized by Ridge Gap Waveguide Technology

Abstract: The novel ridge-gap waveguide (RGW) technology which uses a full metal structure has many advantages in micro/mm-wave frequencies such as low loss, broad bandwidth, low sensitivity to manufacturing errors, and easy integration with active components, etc. In this paper, a Ku-band Gysel power divider (GPD) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on the RGW technology for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. An RGW-to-WR62 transition is also designed and fabricated. The proposed RGW-based GPD … Show more

“…These unequal power dividers are typically employed to lower the side lobes level of the array antenna [54], [88]. Furthermore, the GW technology has been used to design several other forms of power dividers or couplers, such as the Gysel power divider, rat-race couplers, and 3 dB hybrid couplers [67], [89]- [93]. Another essential microwave component for beamforming is the phase shifter.…”

“…GPDs can handle more power by using grounded resistors, which transfer heat to the ground. A number of works have been published on Gysel power dividers [20][21][22][23], but these designs have a low ratio of frequency bandwidth. Figure 1 shows the structure of conventional Wilkinson and Gysel Power dividers.…”
