Abstract

TheG ünther Laukien Prize is ar eward for NMR spectroscopic research that has strong potential for practical applications.T he prize is awarded annually at the Experimental NMR Conference.In2019 the prize is shared by two winners.Christian Griesinger (Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biophysical Chemistry,G oettingen; Germany) [1a] studied Chemistry and Physics at University of Frankfurt (Germany) and received his PhD in Chemistry in 1986 for work with Horst Kessler. From 1986 to 1989 he was ap ostdoctoral fellow with Richard R. Ernst at Eidgençssische Te chnische Hochschule (ETH) Zurich (Switzerland). In 1990 he became Full Professor for Organic Chemistry at University of Frankfurt, and in 1999 he moved to Goettingen as aDepartment Director and Scientific Member of MPI for Biophysical Chemistry.S ince 2001 he has been Honorary Professor at University of Goettingen. His group develops NMR spectroscopic methods for investigations on proteins and other natural compounds. They study toxic aggregation states of intrinsically disordered proteins related to degenerative diseases and small molecules that interfere with these toxic aggregation states.G riesinger was an author of aCommunication in Angewandte Chemie on the kinetics of the antibody recognition site in an IgGbinding domain of Protein G. [1b] Geoffrey Bodenhausen (Ecole Normale SupØrieure,P aris;F rance) studied Chemistry at ETH Zurich and received his DPhil in 1977 for work with Ray Freeman at University of Oxford (UK).
