Gunn-mounted active microstrip rectangular patch antenna – revisited

Abstract: The microstrip active patch antenna behaves like a resonant circuit/cavity with multiple resonant frequencies; furthermore, depending on the non-linearity of the device, it generates significant amount of second harmonic radiation. The location of the device on the patch that maximizes the fundamental radiated power output is found to be not the position corresponding to the minimum second harmonic content in radiated power. An optimum location of the diode on the patch has been suggested. The paper also discu… Show more

“…Various techniques have already been proposed such as the use of highdielectric substrate, multilayer structures [10,11], introducing slots and notches [12], fractal shaped patches [4,13], various shape strips and loop structures [5,[14][15][16][17], and employing metamaterial loading techniques [7,18]. Using high-dielectric substrate material, so-called superstrate, increases the quality factor but it also causes an increase in electric field concentration [19]. In the selection of high-dielectric material, the targeted band of operation should be considered first.…”
