Objectives: Data and data visualization are integral parts of (clinical) decision-making in general and stewardship (antimicrobial stewardship, infection control, and institutional surveillance) in particular. However, systematic research on the use of data visualization in stewardship is lacking. This study aimed at filling this gap by creating a visual dictionary of stewardship through an assessment of data visualization in stewardship research. Methods: A random sample of 150 data visualizations from published research articles on stewardship were assessed. The visualization vocabulary (content) and design space (design elements) were combined to create a visual dictionary. Additionally, visualization errors, chart junk, and quality were assessed to identify problems in current visualizations and to provide improvement recommendations. Results: Despite a heterogeneous use of data visualization, distinct combinations of graphical elements to reflect stewardship data were identified. In general, bar (n=54; 36.0%) and line charts (n=42; 28.1%) were preferred visualization types. Visualization problems comprised colour scheme mismatches, double y-axis, hidden data points through overlaps, and chart junk. Recommendations were derived that can help to clarify visual communication, improve colour use for grouping/stratifying, improve the display of magnitude, and bring visualizations to match scientific standards. Conclusions: Results of this study can be used to guide data visualization creators in designing visualizations that fit the data and visual habits of the stewardship target audience. Additionally, the results can provide the basis to further expand the visual dictionary of stewardship towards more effective visualizations that improve data insights, knowledge, and clinical decision-making.

Use of Visual Dashboards to Enhance Pharmacy Teaching

Teaching large cohorts of pharmacy students with a team of multiple tutors in a feedback intensive course poses challenges in relation the amount of data generated, data integrity, interpretation of the data and importantly application of the insights gained from the data. The dispensing and counselling course in the third year BPharm at the University of Sydney has implemented the USyd Pharmacy Dashboard, developed to address these challenges following the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge Framework (TPACK) to integrate technology into teaching. The dashboard was designed to improve the student experience through more consistent feedback, gain insights to improve teaching delivery and provide efficiencies in maintaining data integrity. The tool has been developed using an action-based research approach whereby ideas are put into practice as the means to further develop the idea and improve practice. Refinement of the USyd Pharmacy Dashboard over three years has shown improvements in teaching delivery as teachers can respond to emerging trends. Student performance and satisfaction scores have increased, mainly due to improved consistency between tutors and improved delivery of feedback. Time involved with administrative tasks such as data maintenance is reduced. Opportunities for further refinements such as real time benchmarking and developing an open learner model have become apparent.

PT. Jakarta Maju Pusaka adalah perusahaan yang bergerak dalam bidang kargo barang yang sangat berperan dalam pertumbuhan ekonomi, terutama dalam bidang ekspor-impor barang di Indonesia. Selama ini manager dalam melakukan monitoring finance perusahaan masih menggunakan proses pencatatan pada buku besar di bagian finance. Sistem informasi monitoring (dashboard system) mempunyai ide dasar dan manfaat yang dapat diperoleh sama dengan analogi kegunaan dashboard bagi pengemudi, yaitu dashboard dengan layar yang didesain yang menampilkan informasi mengenai kondisi bagian finance, yang memungkinkan para eksekutif dapat dengan cepat mengidentifikasi masalah dan menentukan langkah perbaikan untuk meningkatkan kinerja pada bagian finance PT. Jakarta Maju Pusaka secara keseluruhan. Pembangunan sistem informasi monitoring (dashboard) ini menggunakan model prototype requirement. Penelitiaan ini bertujuan membangun sistem informasi monitoring (dashboard system) yang memberikan kemudahan kepada manager dalam monitoring laporan finance PT. Jakarta Maju Pusaka.
