Alkaloids U 0600Evaluation of Strychnos pseudoquina St. Hil. Leaves Extract on Gastrointestinal Activity in Mice. -The new alkaloid (I) is isolated from the methanolic extract of leaves from S. pseudoquina together with rutin and kempferol 3-O-β-rutinoside. Both the polar and the enriched alkaloid fraction of the title plant reveal a significant anti-ulcer and cytoprotective effect on different induced gastric lesions with absence of toxicity by acute treatment. The anti-ulcer activity of the crude extract is almost as potent as that of the alkaloid-enriched fraction, thus indicating the possibility that further compounds may also contribute to the observed activity. -(APARECIDO DA SILVA, M.; MURINO RAFACHO, B.
