GsMATE encoding a multidrug and toxic compound extrusion transporter enhances aluminum tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana

Abstract: BackgroundMultidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) transporters, which exist widely in plants, function as crucial regulators in plant resistance to aluminum (Al) toxicity by inducing citrate efflux. However, the functions of most MATE family members in soybean (Glycine soja) remain to be elucidated.ResultsExpression pattern analysis showed that GsMATE was constitutively expressed in different soybean organs, with the highest level in root compared with those in stem, leaf and cotyledon. In addition, Al s… Show more

“…The purified PCR product was then inserted into the multiple cloning sites of the pLB vector (Tiangen Rapid DNA Ligation Kit, Beijing, China). The positive clones in Escherichia coli were used to obtain the full cDNA sequence of GmWRKY16 identified by PCR, enzyme digestion and sequencing [Sangon Biotech (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., China] (Lü et al, 2015; Ma et al, 2018).…”

“…The inhibition of the root length was an initial detection of Al toxicity in plants (Matsumoto and Motoda, 2012). Plants with strong Al tolerance usually exhibited high relative root growth (Ma et al, 2018;Badia et al, 2020). In this study, the RRG of OE-ZmAT6 transgenic maize was more than 20% higher than those in the WT.…”

“…The full cDNA sequence of GsMAS1 from RT-PCR was 1000 bp with an ORF of 726 bp which encodes 241 amino acids with MW of 27.768 kDa (Additional file 1, Supplementary Materials). The GsMAS1 gene was induced by Al stress (25 µM AlCl 3 , 0.5 mM CaCl 2 , pH 4.3) with over 2-fold expression level from the data of the gene expression profile [89,91]. The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) analysis of NCBI revealed that putative GsMAS1 protein has the structural characteristics of the MADS-box transcription factor with two conservative domains (Additional file 2, Figure S1).…”
