In this study, the effect of Emotion-Focused Communication Training (EFCT) developed by the researcher was examined on the assertiveness levels of counselor candidates. The study has a mixed design because it includes quantitative and qualitative dimensions. In the quantitative dimension of the study, a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was used. The experimental group of the study consisted of 12 (7 female, 5 male) counselor candidates studying at Dokuz Eylül University, Buca Faculty of Education, Psychological Counseling and Guidance undergraduate program; the control group consisted of 12 (8 female, 4 male) counselor candidates studying in the same department and not included in the experimental group. The Voltan-Acar Assertiveness Scale was used to measure the assertiveness levels of counselor candidates. The quantitative data of the study were analyzed using the SPSS program. In addition, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used to determine the views of the counselor candidates on the training. The qualitative data of the study were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the study, it was found that the EFCT led to a significant increase in the levels of assertiveness of counselor candidates. In the study, the counselor candidates' opinions about the effects of the EFCT were that the training contributed positively to their communication skills, awareness of communication, and assertiveness levels.

Öz. Bu araştırmada güvengenlik düzeyi düşük olan üniversite öğrencilerine yönelik olarak alan uzmanlarınca yeniden gözden geçirilerek revize edilen psiko-eğitim programının katılımcıların güvengenliklerini artırmada etkin bir yöntem olup olmadığına bakılmıştır. Çalışma, ön-test, son-test ve izleme testi yapılarak düzenlenmiştir. Çalışma uygulamanın etkisini karşılaştırmak için kontrol grubunun oluşturulduğu deneysel modeldir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, 2017-2018 öğretim yılında Orta Anadolu'da bir üniversitedeki Meslek Yüksek Okulunda öğrenim gören toplam 16 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın deney grubunda 8, kontrol grubunda 8 öğrenci bulunmaktadır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin seçiminde katılımcıların gönüllülüğü esas alınmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında Voltan-Acar ve Öğretmen (2007)'in güvengenlik düzeyini ölçmek için üniversitede öğrenim görenlere yönelik olarak geliştirdiği Voltan-Acar Kendini Belirleme Ölçeği (Güvengenlik Ölçeği) kullanılmıştır. Deney grubundaki katılımcılar ile kontrol grubundaki katılımcılar arasında güvengenlik düzeyleri açısından farklılık incelenmiştir. Gruplar arası farklılığa bakmak amacıyla farklı gruplar için Mann-Whitney U-testi kullanılmıştır. Aynı grubun kendi içindeki değişimine bakmak için de Wilcoxon işaretli-sıralar tekniği tercih edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonunda güvengenlik psiko-eğitim programına katılanların güvengenlik düzeylerinde anlamlı bir artış olmuştur. Bu eğitim güvengenlik ve sosyal beceri kazanımı alanında teorik ve uygulamalı çalışmalara ve alan uzmanlarına katkı sağlayacaktır. Ayrıca güvengenlik konusunda yeni araştırmaları da teşvik edecektir.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of "Selfconfidence Development Program Based on Rational Emotional Behavioral Therapy Approach" on self-confidence levels of seventh grade students. In the direction of purpose of study; it was examined whether the self-confidence points of the participants in the experimental and control groups changed significantly. Design & Methodology: An experimental design, with a treatment and notreatment control group and two measurements (pretest and posttest) was used. Participants were sixteen seventh grade students as eight participants in each group. The experiment group participants attended 60-90 minutes treatment session, for the duration of seven weeks. Piers-Harris Self Concept scale was used in this study. Findings: According to results, the treatment was effective in increasing treatment group subjects' self-confidence scores. Mean of self-confidence pre-test score of treatment group is 46.62, post-test score is 53.87. According to Mann Whitney U test, there is significant difference between self confidence scores of treatment and nontreatment control group. Wilcoxon test results showed that there was a significant difference between the pretest and post-test scores of the Piers Harris scale in favor of the post-test scores. Implications & Suggestions: When the findings obtained from the research are examined, it is seen that the self-confidence program based on rational emotional behavioral therapy is effective in improving students' selfconfidence level. In line with this result, content of self-confidence program could include parent and teacher. Also this program which aims to development self-confidence can be used by school counselors. Longitudinal research should have been done in the future researches.
