Both Antweiler (1956) and Hilding (1957) viewed the ciliary streaming of mucus in the bronchial tree and each reported a pattern which would tend to keep the carina free from particles. In the experiment now to be described delayed neutron analysis was used to determine accurately nanogram quantities of 235UOz particles in the region of the carina and on the trachea of rats up to 14 days after inhalation.…”
