En este estudio fueron evaluadas algunas variedades de cítricos utilizadas como interinjertos en las características del crecimiento inicial de brote primario de la lima persa var. ‘Tahiti’ (Citrus x latifolia Tanaka ex Q. Jiménez) y su relación con características del tallo. Se utilizaron como interinjertos trifoliado ‘Flying Dragon’ (Poncirus trifoliata var. ‘Monstruosa’), trifoliado ‘Rubidoux’ (P. trifoliata var. ‘Rubidoux’) y la propia lima ‘Tahiti’; y como portainjertos se utilizó el naranjo ‘Agrio’ (C. aurantium L.) y limón ‘Volkameriano’ (C. volkameriana Tenn. & Pasq.). Se realizó un diseño de tratamientos factorial 2 x 4. Se midieron siete variables del crecimiento inicial del injerto y seis características del tallo y se correlacionaron entre ellas. El ‘Agrio’ con los interinjertos redujo la longitud, velocidad de crecimiento, diámetro y longitud de entrenudos del brote primario en 18, 22, 12 y 14 % menos respecto a ‘Volkameriano’ con los interinjertos. ’Rubidoux’ sobre ‘Volkameriano’ tuvo los valores más altos en seis variables del crecimiento, pero combinado con ‘Agrio’ indujo características de enanismo en el brote primario de lima ‘Tahiti’. El diámetro de tallo de ambos portainjertos se afectó por el interinjerto. ´Rubidoux’ incrementó el diámetro de ‘Volkameriano’ pero no el de ‘Agrio’, mientras que ‘Flying Dragon’ presentó mayor diámetro que su portainjerto. Se encontraron correlaciones bajas ( -0.22 a 0.50) del diámetro del portainjerto y del interinjerto; del grosor de la corteza del portainjerto y del interinjerto con todas las variables del crecimiento del brote primario de lima ‘Tahiti’.

Objectives: This work was carried out to estimate the optimal plant density for 4 Valencia orange varieties and to determine the highest yield potential as a strategic to overlap the yield reduction by citrus HLB disease. Methodology: Tree growth data of nine years [(height, diameter and canopy volume (CV); area of soil covered by canopy (ASC)] and yield in kg/tree (Y) of four varieties were analyzed first by correlation analysis and then submitted to a lineal and multiple regression analysis. Contribution: Correlation values of 0.8 and 0.85 were observed for ASC and CV with Y, respectively. Based on these variables the optimal calculated tree densities by regression for “Pineapple”, “Queen”, “Cutter” and “Campbell” varieties were 900-1000 trees/ha, which can yield 30 to 60 ton/ha/year, from 4th to 9th year.

An in-depth knowledge about variables affecting production is required in order to predict global production and take decisions in agriculture. Machine learning is a technique used in agricultural planning and precision agriculture. This work (i) studies the effectiveness of machine learning techniques for predicting orchards production; and (ii) variables affecting this production were also identified. Data from 964 orchards of lemon, mandarin, and orange in Corrientes, Argentina are analysed. Graphic and analytical descriptive statistics, correlation coefficients, principal component analysis and Biplot were performed. Production was predicted via M5-Prime, a model regression tree constructor which produces a classification based on piecewise linear functions. For all the species studied, the most informative variable was the trees' age; in mandarin and orange orchards, age was followed by between and within row distances; irrigation also affected mandarin production. Also, the performance of M5-Prime in the prediction of production is adequate, as shown when measured with correlation coefficients (~0.8) and relative mean absolute error (~0.1). These results show that M5-Prime is an appropriate method to classify citrus orchards according to production and, in addition, it allows for identifying the most informative variables affecting production by tree.
