Çocuk bir millet hayatında en önemli unsurdur. Onun maddi ve manevi her türlü kıymetlerinin geliştirilmesi için geniş ilmi araştırmaların yapılması lâzımdır. Çocuğa dair problemler çoktur. Bu etüdde onun yal nız fiziki büyümesi tetkik edilmiştir.Çocuk, bilindiği gibi hususi bir mesai isteyen kompleks bir varlıktır. Bir ruhiyatçı için, çocuğun fiziki büyümesi esnasında davranışların değiş melerini tespit etmek ne kadar mühim ise, fiziki büyümedeki değişmelerde o nisbette önemlidir. Çocuğun büyüme dinamizmasını iyice tanıdıktan sonra, mental kabiliyetlerini kavramak kolaylaşır.Sırf ilmi neticeleri için Fiziki Antropolojistler, Anatomistler, Biometrisiyenler, ve Ruhiyatçılar, büyüme problemlerini tetkik etmişler ve ka nunlarını bulmağa çalışmışlardır. Elde edilen neticelerden tıp ve eğitim alanında, sigorta işlerinde, çocuk bakımında büyük faydalar sağlanmıştır. Böyle geniş bir saha içinde yeri olduğu bilinen, büyüme problemleri, ehemmiyeti bakımından, diğer milletlerde olduğu gibi, memleketimizde de ana davalardan biri olmalıdır. Diğer etnik gruplar çocuklarına ait ölçüleri, aynen kendi çocuklarımız için kullanmak veya o kıymetlere göre bazı neticeler çıkarmak tamamiyle hatalıdır.

That a reduction in the amount of soft tissues results from undernutrition is well known. The bony skeleton, however, is often looked on as being relatively fixed hereditarily; indeed, the body proportions are widely used by the anthropologist as an index of racial origin. That this concept is erroneous was shown in 1912 by Boas,1 who demonstrated a change in the cephalic index of the offspring of immigrants to America. More recently it was shown that undernutrition in infants results in a change in the proportions of the external dimensions (measured from bony points), undernourished infants becoming more "linear" than well nourished infants of the same racial origin and from the same social environment.2In the present study the influence of undernutrition on the configuration, relations and texture of the ulna and radius was studied. The infants used in this study have been described in the two preceding papers.3 TECHNIC Roentgenograms were taken with the forearm supinated and the dorsum of the forearm and hand flat against the plate at a distance of 90 cm.
