Vertical agriculture in urban areas is a new phenomenon where interest is needed in order to develop. The objective of the research is to develop the tower system in vertical farming technique. In this research, tower could produce 624 plants. This tower is made using PVC pipe with 26 holes per tower. Each set of towers is equipped with an irrigation system, namely a water pump to drain nutrient water in the pipe. The way this monitoring system works is that the ESP 32 Series is connected to a voltage source so that it will be integrated to turn on and the system will check the ESP 32 Series connection with the internet. Sensors will be active and read data, when the DHT22 sensor detects a temperature of 33° then the fan will turn on, also if humidity <60% then the misting will turn on. The monitoring system works well. Data from temperature and humidity readings can be controlled and known. The average plant height of Bok choy is 8.89 cm, leaf width is 7.40 cm, leaf length is 10.33 cm, and the number of leaves is 10.24 strands. So, this system recommended to increasing the production in urban area.

Soilless culture is emerging as a popular tool to grow agricultural and horticultural crops in open systems, closed systems, protected cultivation, vertical farming, and soil affected or stress-affected areas. The climatic factors and biometabolism are integrated in stimulating quality phenological growth and biochemical and physiological processes in soilless crop production. Soilless crop production (SCP) has immense potential to build a soilless green revolution and for sustaining crop production. Information on substrate and water based culture collected for the period from 1996 to 2022 is reviewed and analyzed in this work. The performance of crops in soilless culture improves morphological and physiological parameters compared with soil based cultivation. The distinct environmental factors positively influence soilless culture to exhibit cellular processes, biological processes, molecular processes, and the ecosystem in the crop. The impacts of ecological factors are more efficient in closed systems compared with open systems. The salient features of metabolites and biometabolism in substrate based media were identified with transcriptome analysis and found to be different compared with soil based cultivation. Developing simple nutrient formulations suited for soilless culture is essential to popularize this technology among marginal farmers.

There is a growing interest among vegetable growers in using locally available growing media in hydroponic production. This study assessed the growth and yield of pechay, nutrient solution consumption of the plant, and its quality using different growing media (foam, coco peat, raw rice hull, raw saw dust, vermicompost, composted rice straw, composted rice hull) in a Kratky hydroponic system at the Institute of Agriculture, Camiguin Polytechnic State College-Catarman Campus, Tangaro, Catarman, Camiguin from June 10, 2021, until July 15, 2021. The study was laid in a Randomized Complete Block Design with seven treatments and three replications. Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference (HSD) was used to compare the significant differences between treatment means. Results showed that the type of growing media did not significantly affect the pechay growth performance, insect pests and disease incidence, nutrient solution consumption, and final quality of the hydroponic nutrient solution. However, a highly significant difference was observed in horticultural root development characteristics except for the percentage of root per plant and survival rate. In terms of yield parameters, highly significant differences were observed except for the number of marketable and non-marketable yields, the weight of non-marketable yields, and the harvest index. Our results showed that the use of foam could be used effectively to increase production under a hydroponic system. The use of organic growing media (raw rice hull, vermicompost, raw saw dust, coco peat) was also promising for their growth and yield performance. It can be concluded that the growing media affects the growth and yield of pechay in a hydroponic production system; however, the potential use of these various growing media should be further tested for verification.
