Growth Performance and Carcass Traits Responses to Dried Distillers’ Grain with Solubles Feeding of Growing Awassi Ram Lambs

Abstract: Simple SummaryCorn grain is considered to be the most important crop in the world. Corn dried distiller grains with solubles is a by-product of ethanol production. It is included at 0, 125, or 25 g/kg in lambs’ diets. This inclusion reduced the cost of diet, indicating the good possibility of using it in small ruminant diets.AbstractThis study considers the impact of dried distillers’ grain with solubles (DDGS) in diets of lambs. Randomly; 27 lambs were distributed to one of three diets. Diets were: a control … Show more

“…In agreement with previous studies dealing with alternative feedstuffs (Obeidat 2018(Obeidat , 2020Aloueedat et al 2019;Hatamleh and Obeidat 2019), the cost of diets diminished by 20 and 24% in the OC and ATR diets, respectively, compared to the CON diet. These findings could be due to the fact that the cost of alternative feeds is cheaper than that of conventional feeds.…”

“…To solve this problem, livestock producers have started to depend on alternative feeds as part of the diet [14], due to their price and good availability [15]. Consistent with the current study, no health problems were observed in other studies conducted in our laboratory using different alternative feeds (sesame meal, olive cake, bread by-products, dried distillers' grains with solubles, carob pods, Atriplex halimus L.) [14][15][16][17]. Overall the nutrient content in the BCM (such as the CP and EE; Table 1) indicates how this ingredient to be used as an alternative feed.…”

“…The marbling scores (376, 399, 355, 364, respectively) were also not significantly different ( p > 0.05) among the treatments and fall on the marbling degree of “Slight (S.L.)”. Flank color and marbling scores were all within the normal range for growing meat goats, as these values are consistent with other values reported by other researchers [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 30 , 32 ]. Ribeye area (REA) was not significantly different ( p > 0.05) among treatments with values of 3.68, 3.4, 3.47, 3.39 cm 2 for 0, 10, 20, and 30% HSM, respectively.…”

“…There was no significant difference ( p > 0.05) in the moisture, fat, protein, and collagen content of the goat meats among treatments, as shown in Table 4 . The percentage of moisture, fat, protein, and collagen were all within the normal range for growing meat goats, consistent with the values reported by other studies [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 30 , 32 ]. Similarly, moisture and protein contents were consistent with the values reported by Sen et al and Shija et al [ 31 , 33 ].…”
