Growth pattern and expressions of cell cycle regulator proteins p53 and p21WAF1/CIP1 in early gastric carcinoma

Abstract: Three experiments examined whether or not fixation effects occur in brainstorming as a function of receiving ideas from others. Exchanging ideas in a group reduced the number of domains of ideas that were explored by participants. Additionally, ideas given by brainstormers conformed to ideas suggested by other participants. Temporal analyses showed how the quantity, variety and novelty of ideas fluctuate over the course of a brainstorming session. Taking a break modulated the natural decline over time in the q… Show more

“…It has been reported that p21 waf1 mediates the growth response to TGF-β in human epithelial cells and that the absence of p21 waf1 may be one method used by cancer cells to escape the growth inhibitory effects of TGF-β (36). The fact that high p21 waf1 expression significantly correlates with poorer clinical outcome is in agreement with previous studies conducted on carcinomas, such as prostate carcinoma (37), superficial bladder tumors (38) and gastric carcinoma (39). The opposite results have also been reported from studies of several other types of tumor, including breast (40), lung (41) and laryngeal (42) carcinoma.…”

“…While some investigators support the relationship of p53 with cancer prognosis [46,47], others reported that p53 overexpression is actually not p53-expression and the Outcome of Early Gastric Cancer related to the prognosis of neoplastic diseases, including gastric cancer [19,20]. In this study, the overexpression of p53 showed no significant relationship with the outcome of patients.…”

“…Based on these criteria, areas of focal staining with the highest percentage of p53- and p21-positive nuclear staining within deep tumor tissue were estimated. A tumor was scored as p21- or p53-positive when more than 10% of the tumor cells had nuclear staining, in keeping with previous reports [10]. HIF-1α expression was frequently evident in regions around the invading edges of the tumor, and necrotic areas such as those close to a deep ulcer.…”
