Growth Parameter and Fecundity of Fringe Scale Sardine (Sardinella fimbriata Cuvier Valenciennes) in Alas Strait, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara

Abstract: Fisheries in the Alas Strait, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara is one of important sea area for the activity of fishing, especially small scale fishermen. In addition, the Alas Strait have a good fishery for catching pelagic fish species of Fringe Scale Sardine (Sardinella fimbriata). The aim of this study was to asses the growth parameter and fecundity of Fringe Scale Sardine (S. fimbriata). The research was conducted on August to December 2016, at the Fish Landing Base Tanjung Luar, East Lombok, West Nusa Ten… Show more

“…The total fecundity of Goldstripe sardinella (S. gibbosa) at TPI Pantai Labu Deli Serdang in Malacca Strait ranged from 1548-30858 eggs. This is different from the research of [13] in the waters of the Alas Strait obtained a range of 2,801-60,578 eggs and [14] in the coastal waters of West Java which stated that the fecundity of Goldstripe sardinella was between 10,872-149,853 eggs. The difference in fecundity is likely caused by different environmental conditions, especially those related to food availability.…”

“…This indicates that Goldstripe sardinella spawning type is partial spawner. According to [13] female pelagic fish have fecundity and gradual spawning properties but the shortest spawning period is found in small pelagic fish living in the middle zone because optimal conditions for embryo and larval survival tend to depend on the seasonal period. According to [17], gradual spawning has the advantage that fish stocks in the waters are better maintained because eggs are not released at once, mature eggs with larger diameter size are released first, then immature eggs will be released at the next stage.…”

“…The high rate of exploitation of shark and ray population in Indonesia is a concern for the sustainability, with an estimated catch of about 118,000 tons in 2008 and the total of world catches reached 736,491 tons, will have a significant impact on the population and the marine environment balance [1,2]. One of the fisheries and marine potential demersal species of Stingray in TPI Tanjung Beringin in Serdang Bedagai Regency has been feared to disrupt the sustainability of fish resources, so it is allowed to accomplish an anticipating act in the management [3]. This highlights the importance of identifying and evaluating stingray species and exploitation rates.…”

“…Intensive use of these stingrays' resources requires management efforts [4]. The availability of stingrays can be significantly reduced due to high and uncontrolled exploitation of fish resources [3], as well as a negative impact on the number of fish stocks, a decrease in catches from the stock of stingray fish resources so that the status of the fish stock becomes overfishing. The current study used a survey and descriptive method, followed by sample collection and morphology identification of stingray species, as well as determining the length and weight of fish landed in TPI Tanjung Beringin, using statistical data from the Department of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs at Serdang Bedagai Regency.…”

“…This high intensification of capture can lead to a decrease in white shrimp stocks in nature. [3,4,5] stated that high fishing intensity can be at risk of being vulnerable to capturing fishery commodities in nature. The preservation of the white shrimp population must be maintained to meet market share to improve the welfare of the fishing communities that live around the area.…”
