Growth of Ornamental Pepper in Colored Containers Under Protected Environments

Abstract: Ornamental pepper plants produced in containers under protected environments have high added value. We carried out research with an aim to evaluate the growth and development of ornamental pepper in containers of different colors under two protected environments, both with thermal-reflective screens under a polyethylene film: one with 18-22 % shading and the other with 42-50 % in colored containers (brown, blue, black, and red). The treatments formed by a 2 × 4 factorial (environments × container colors) were … Show more

“…In ornamental pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.), the brown container under an agricultural greenhouse and 18-22% shading thermoreflective screen and the red container under an agricultural greenhouse and 42-50% shading thermoreflective screen positively influenced growth and yield when compared to the production in a black container, and the blue container showed a delay in flowering (COSTA et al, 2020a), however, colored reflective materials (blue and red) and silver reflective on the benches did not influence the growth and production of the pepper plant, which presented a greater amount of fruits in an agricultural greenhouse and a thermoreflective screen of 42-50% shading compared to an agricultural greenhouse and thermoreflective screen with 18-22% shading and agricultural screen with 18% shading (LIMA et al, 2018).…”

“…In studies about the effect of the ambient and pot colors on ornamental pepper (Capsicum frutescens) Piramide cultivar, it was verified that a greenhouse covered with a low-density polyethylene film and a 42-50% shade cloth below the film promoted better initial growth to pepper plants and earlier fructification than the greenhouse with an 18-22% shade cloth. The brown pot in a greenhouse with a 42-50% shade cloth and the red pot in the greenhouse with an 18-22% shade cloth under the film positively influenced the growth and yield characteristics of pepper plants compared with the black pot (Costa et al, 2020b).…”
