“…The ethanol extracts of selected strains were analysed by HPLC, in order to collect more information about the specific pigments (carotenoids and chlorophylls). The main peaks of each species were identified (Moore et al 1995;Graziani et al 2013;Goecke et al 2020;Zimermann et al 2020). The overall picture showed a high variability of xanthophylls, both identified and not identified, among samples.…”

“…Among physicochemical processes, there is coagulation [4], electrocoagulation [5], forward osmosis [6], chemical precipitation [7], adsorption [8], and oxidation [9]. As for biological systems, there are many technologies such as sequencing batch reactor [10], bioaugmentation [11], biosorption [12], membrane bioreactor [13], anaerobic digestion [14]… etc. In fact, each process has its advantages and disadvantages; hence the process performance is highly dependent on the nature of the effluent and the flow to be treated.…”

“…Heavy metals could also be removed by this biological system. The reference [11] has shown that this system is capable to remove chromium from a tannery effluent with a removal rate of 96.1% using a low volumetric organic load. As well, [37] has indicated that several heavy metals (Nickel, chromium, cadmium, cobalt, zinc, and silver) were eliminated from brassware effluent through this system with high removal rates that reached more than 60%.…”

“…Kepekçi and Saygideger [60] enhanced the production of phenolic compounds (49.83 ± 5.56 mg GAE/g DW) using a two‐step batch mode cultivation with S. platensis . Furthermore, G. sulphuraria grown in whey permeate in stirred tank bioreactor showed enhanced production of ellagic acid (860 µg/g, two times greater than the content in raspberries) [80]. C. sorokiniana grown in cane vinasse (0.1%) medium supplemented with N:P:K (20–5–20 g/L) showed high content of phenolic compounds (15.28 ± 0.32 mg GAE/g, as compared to 6.02 ± 0.13 mg GAE/g in commercial medium) and flavonoids (72.30 ± 5.28 mg QE/g, as compared to 13.12 ± 1.33 mg QE/g in commercial medium) [91].…”
