“…Previously, we have reported that NACOS-6 shows a growth-inhibitory effect against sarcoma-180, MM-46, and Meth-A solid tumors (21,25). In the present paper, we investigated whether NACOS-6-treated tumor-bearing mice could resist infection by one of the opportunistic fungi, C. albicans.…”

“…It should be noted that the most favorable condition for manifestation of antitumor effects by administration of NACOS-6, i.e., a single i.v. injection (25), is not the most favorable condition for evoking the capability to protect against infection, i.e., multiple injection via the same route. The latter procedure seems to be indispensable for induction of a strong resistance to C. albicans in mice, because all NACOS-6-untreated tumorbearing mice died within I week after inoculation with C. albicans.…”

“…It has become apparent that these oligomers have antibacterial, 1) antifungal,2) and antitumor 3 ) activities. There are a number of reports about bacteria degrading either chitin 4 ) or chitosan,5) but not so much information about bacteria degrading both chitin and chitosan in a single cell.…”
