“…Matussek et al (1980) suggested that these results indicate that the blunted growth hormone response in schizoaffective disorders may be an indication that this disorder is more closely related to endogenous depression and affective disorders than to schizophrenia. The blunted growth hormone response to clonidine in depression compared to schizophrenia has also been observed by Checkley, Slade, and Shur (1981), Siever et al (1982aSiever et al ( , 1982b, Charney, Heninger, andCharney et al (1982). Further studies of the clonidineinduced increase in growth hormone in schizoaffective depressed patients are clearly indicated.…”

“…As in earlier clinical studies with desipramine (Charney et al 1982b), amitriptyline (Charney et al 1982b(Charney et al , 1983, clorgyline (Siever et al 1982a), and mianserin (Chaarney et al 1984), TRZ failed to alter the GH response to clonidine, which appears to be mediated by postsynaptic ~2 receptors (Terry and Martin 1981 ;McWilliam and Meldrum 1983). Since presynaptic e2 function is altered by some of these antidepressants, the lack of change of the GH response may reflect selectivity of antidepressant effects in different subpopulations of c~2 receptors.…”
