These data demonstrate that stable transfection with connexin43 cDNA constructs can result in detectable changes in connexin43 expression and cellular coupling without inducing compensatory changes in the cell's connexin phenotype and, therefore, may provide a basis for future attempts at specifically modulating connexin expression and intercellular resistance in cardiac tissues.
