Growth and characterization of dichloro tetrakis thiourea nickel single crystals

Abstract: Thiourea has a large dipole moment and has an ability to form extensive network of hydrogen bonds. In the course of our studies on new semiorganic NLO materials, thiourea is selected to combine with nickel chloride. Single crystals of tetrakis thiourea nickel chloride are grown using silica gel. Green transparent crystals of NTC (nickel thiourea chloride) of dimension 8x4x3 mm 3 are grown in a period of 45 days. Single crystal XRD shows that the crystal belongs to body centered tetragonal symmetry class I4. Th… Show more

“…It has been reported that tetrakis(thiourea)nickel(II) chloride [5,32] belongs to tetragonal system with noncentrosymmetric space group I4. Nickel(II) ions attain different stereochemical arrangements depending on the nature of the anion and the preparative conditions [33].…”

“…Metal-organic complexes offer higher environmental stability combined with greater diversity of tunable electronic properties by virtue of the co-ordinated metal center. Many metal thiourea complexes possessing second-order NLO activities [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] and some of them centrosymmetric in nature [11][12][13] have been reported. As a part our studies, in the growth of centrosymmetric crystals exhibiting a small SHG efficiency [14], in the present investigation, we are reporting the growth, structure and characterization of hexakis(thiourea)nickel(II) nitrate crystals.…”

“…Also, after the demetallation step the band in the 600 cm −1 range disappeared. The vibrational mode (both stretching and bending) due to the C-N bond appears at 1328 and 1124 cm −1 in the metal complex of thiourea compounds [33][34][35][36][37][38][39].…”

“…Due to this, crystals grown in a gel medium allows one to obtain almost defect-free crystals useful for nonlinear optical applications. [7] In this paper, an attempt has been made to grow and characterize a new nonlinear optical crystal of tribismuthnonakisthioureanonachloridedihydrate (TBNTNC).…”
