Group Secret Key Generation in Wireless Networks: Algorithms and Rate Optimization

Abstract: Abstract-This paper investigates group secret key generation problems for different types of wireless networks, by exploiting physical layer characteristics of wireless channels. A new group key generation strategy with low-complexity is proposed, which combines the well established point-to-point pairwise key generation technique, the multi-segment scheme, and the onetime pad. In particular, this group key generation process is studied for three types of communication networks: 1) the threenode network, 2) th… Show more

“…Some of the recent works in the key generation are Liu et al, 10 which employed relay nodes to extract secret keys for secure group communication. An elementary model for a wireless key generation was built, and various modifications in each block to enhance the performance of the overall system were proposed by Saad et al 11 Xu et al 12 proposed a low complexity group secret key generation approach by combining basic techniques like one time pad for various types of communication network. They also provide the theoretical analysis of the proposed approach and develop a prototype on MICAz motes for experimentation in an indoor and outdoor environment.…”

“…In the point-to-point key agreement phase, based on the common observation between each pair of terminals (presented in Fig. 3) that resultant from the training method and the point-to-point key generation technique in Section III, every two terminals can accept on an approximately uniformly distributed shared secret key with rate = , where defined as in (17),where ∈ {1, 2,3}.…”

“…These schemes are more applicable to actual structures at the detriment of some scarification in the rate of the generated secret key in TDD systems. In [17], the authors considered the problem of the group secret key establishment for different models of wireless networks. They merged the approved single-hop key agreement, the segmentation strategy, and the one-time-pad procedure to generate the group key in a TDD system employing the reciprocity feature of the wireless channel.…”

“…A generalization of two-node physical-layer key generation is group secret-key (GSK) generation [20]- [21], wherein more than two nodes in the network generate a shared secret-key by observing an appropriately chosen common source of randomness (CSR). One of the main questions in such a scenario is "How to securely share the CSR among the nodes in the network?"…”
