Groundwater is the primary source for drinking uses in the hard rock terrain of central Telangana, India, where most of the people rely on it for daily uses. Therefore, this study was carried out to comprehend the fluoride contamination and its associated health risk assessment to local dwellers. For this study, 54 groundwater samples were collected from bore wells and hand pumps in the study region and were analysed for fluoride and other physicochemical parameters. The results indicated by statistical mean values of Na + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ and K + are 182.14, 59.79, 23.90 and 3.74 mg/L, respectively, while HCO 3 2− , Cl − , SO 4 2− and NO 3 − are 236.1, 230.8, 167.7 and 81.9 mg/L, respectively. The fluoride concentration ranged from 0.8 to 4.2 mg/L, with a mean of 2.21 mg/L. Eighty-one percent of the groundwater samples exceeded the World Health Organization's water quality limit of 1.5 mg/L for fluoride. Piper trilinear diagram (PTD) signifies that groundwater quality in the study region is characterized by Na +-Cl − , Ca 2+-Mg 2+-Cl − and Na +-HCO 3 −-Cl − hydrochemical water types. Gibbs diagrams indicate that all the major ion chemistry of the groundwater in the study region is controlled by rockwater interactions, while evaporation plays a minor role. The health risk assessment results revealed that the associated hazard quotient (HQ) for the age range of 6 to 12 months within about 100% of the study area exceeded the acceptable HQ limits of 1. Furthermore, the HQ for age categories 6-11 years, 11-16 years and 16-18 years within 96.2, 68.5 and 50%, respectively, of the study locations were larger than 1. Results also indicate that age group 6 to 12 months was most prone to health risks in the study region. Therefore, in the study region, people should be taken necessary actions to abolish the groundwater contamination to protect the local dweller's health.

Surface water is the main source of irrigation and drinking water for rural communities by the Hulan River basin, an important grain-producing region in northeastern China. Understanding the spatial and temporal distribution of water quality and its driving forces is critical for sustainable development and the protection of water resources in the basin. Following sample collection and testing, the spatial distribution and driving forces of water quality were investigated using cluster analysis, hydrochemical feature partitioning, and Gibbs diagrams. The results demonstrated that the surface waters of the Hulan River Basin tend to be medium-weakly alkaline with a low degree of mineralization and water-rock interaction. Changes in topography and land use, confluence, application of pesticides and fertilizers, and the development of tourism were found to be important driving forces affecting the water quality of the basin. Non-point source pollution load fluxes of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) were simulated using the Soil Water and Assessment Tool. The simulation demonstrated that the non-point source pollution loading is low upstream and increases downstream. The distributions of N and P loading varied throughout the basin. The findings of this study provide information regarding the spatial distribution of water quality in the region and present a scientific basis for future pollution control.

Groundwater recharge potential (GWRP) plays a vital role as it directly or indirectly supports domestic, agriculture and industrial activities by infiltrating the rainwater. The present paper touches upon the methodology delineating groundwater recharge potential zones by applying geospatial and multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to the derived thematic layers based on significant influence of occurrence of groundwater in semiarid watershed of Western India. The satellite imageries and other ancillary data were utilized to generate various thematic layers, viz. slope, geology, drainage density, surface run off, geomorphology, land use/land cover soil and vadose zone. The outcome of study shows that about 24.69% is having high GWRP and 24.17% of the area is moderate for recharge of groundwater, while the low and poor groundwater recharges potential area is about 44.34% and 6.80% of total area, respectively. The validation of the study was done by overlaying point data groundwater well yield on the output final map; it shows good correlation with result. Also, the surplus water availability was calculated based on vadose calculation according to CGWB method; it shows 17.12 MCM vadose region having artificial recharge of 22.77 MCM. The total recharge is about 117.41 MCM, about 30% of the total runoff, i.e. 35.22 MCM is considered as surplus monsoon runoff available for artificial recharge. The result shows that the use of remote sensing, geospatial and MCDA technologies are promising and efficiently recognize the suitable regions for groundwater recharge over other conventional techniques.
