Groundwater flow modeling in the basaltic hard rock area of Maharashtra, India

Abstract: The ecological sustainable development and planning of groundwater resources is an excessive challenge for many countries currently facing water insufficiency. The main focus of this work was to determine the direction of groundwater flow, head value, and water level using the steady-state finite difference model (MODFLOW software) in basaltic formations in Maharashtra, India. The MODFLOW model was integrated with ground data using Geographic Information System (GIS) for sustainable groundwater resource manage… Show more

“…GIS technology and Remote sensing data have been confirmed in research works related to natural resources studies, such as soil and water assessment and management ( Khadri and Pande, 2016 ; Pande et al., 2022a , b ; Ananda and Herath, 2003 ). Soil erosion mapping using the Remote sensing data like LU/LC and digital elevation model and MPs based on the method developed in ArcGIS10.5 software has been used by researchers ( Jang et al., 2013 ; Petropoulos et al., 2015 ).…”

“…Soil erosion hotspot mapping is a cost-effective way of reporting the eroded soil site using the ArcGIS 10.5 software for decision-makers, designers, urban or rural area administrators to further plan and manage watershed in the perspective of soil and water conservation ( Skilodimou et al., 2003 ; Pande et al., 2021a , b , c ; Pande et al., 2022a , b ; Pande, 2020 ). Researchers worldwide reported several studies for erosion hotspot mapping or critical sub-watershed/prioritization ( Vrieling, 2007 ; Baba and Yusof, 2001 ).…”

“…This basin belongs to the middle course of the Yellow River Basin. HRB is a small multiple bottomland basin in the transition area from the Ordos Plateau to the northern Shaanxi Loess Plateau [34]. The entire basin lies above the Mu Us Sandy Land, and the surface is mainly covered by Quaternary aeolian sand and lacustrine sand [35] (Figure 1).…”

“…RS, GIS, and hydrological information were clustered (Selvarani et al 2016), and statistical methods (Murmu et al 2019). New technologies such as MIF, AHP, remote sensing, and GIS have correctly identified appropriate groundwater zones for the planning and managing basins at local and global scales (Pande et al, 2019;Pande et al, 2022).…”
