Ground_borne noise and vibration transmitted from subway networks to multi_storey reinforced concrete buildings

Abstract: During the operation of urban subway rail transit systems, vibrations are generated that transmitted through the soil, induce vibrations in nearby buildings. The transmission of ground-borne vibrations from subway rail transit systems in a building is governed by the soil-foundation interaction, the reduction of vibration level between floors, and the amplication due to resonances of building elements. These are influenced by the type of the building, its construction materials, the foundation soil, and the fr… Show more

“…The track model includes the rail and the rubber cushions and fasteners under the rail, and assumes that it is an elastic long beam supported by a 3-layer mass-spring-damper system, in which the elastic long beam simulates the steel rail and a 3-layer mass-spring-damper The system simulates the under-rail cushion, sleepers and track bed respectively. Using the above vehicle-track system dynamic analysis model, the finite element numerical algorithm is used to obtain the load acting on the base as shown in Figure 3 [23].…”

“…A reliable forecast requires a large amount of empirical data. It should cover all typical building structures as well as the mutual location of the vibration source and buildings [5,6,8]. This work presents results of vibration acceleration levels measured on the ground and on the foundation of a building near the tunnels of a small underground.…”

“…The vibration level depends on many factors such as train speed, ground condition, type of structure concerned etc. The effect of ground borne vibration on the building in surrounding areas has been studied in previous literature (Kouroussis et al, 2013;Zou et al, 2015;Zou et al, 2017;Vogiatzis and Mouzakis, 2017). Even though the ground borne vibration might not cause damage to the structure, this may cause annoyance to the people in the building (Suhairy, 2000;Lopes et al, 2016).…”
