Susceptibility measurements on TbZn 12 , TmZn 12 and YZn 12 have been utilised to establish the crystal field and exchange interactions in these compounds. TbZn 12 and TmZn 12 order antiferromagnetically at low temperatures (with Ne  el temperatures T N of 13 and 4 K, respectively) and then they are paramagnetic above T N . YZn 12 has been found to be a Pauli-type paramagnet. The paramagnetic susceptibility was calculated using the van Vleck formula and taking into account the s±f polarisation effects and interionic RKKY-type exchange interactions. The leading crystal field parameters B 0 2 and B 0 4 have been obtained to be 13.5 mK and ± ±0.037 mK for TbZn 12 and ± ±14.2 mK and 0.036 mK for TmZn 12 , respectively.
