Ground state hyperfine structure and nuclear magnetic dipole moments of177Hf and179Hf

Abstract: Using the atomic beam magnetic resonance method the experimental hyperfine structure data of the 5d 2 6s 2 3F 2 ground state of i77Hf and 179I-If described in a previous paper [1] have been completed. After applying corrections due to perturbations by other fine structure levels of the configuration 5d 2 6s 2 we got the following multipole interaction constants: By measuring rf transitions at magnetic fields between 1100 and 1550 Gauss the nuclear ground state magnetic dipole moments were determined. The resul… Show more

“…The ratios of the constants for the two stable odd Hfisotopes, A (177)/A (179) and B(177)/B(179), are also presented. A comparison with the corresponding high accuracy values for these ratios from [17] shows a good agreement. The slight discrepancies observed could be ascribed to two reasons: i) the experimental method used in the present work is less accurate than ABMR, and ii) (25) higher order multipole interactions are not taken into account.…”

“…From the measured frequency pairs the hyperfine intervals at zero field were determined using an iterative fitting procedure described in more detail in [14,15,16] Using the known ratio of the magnetic dipole moments [1] one finds with the above determined A factors a very small (presumably zero) value for the hyperfine anomaly as is expected for a d-electron configuration:…”

“…The calculations were performed neglecting configuration interaction, relativistic effects and core polarization. With a special computer program [14,15] we have searched for resonances suited for a direct measurement of the g~ factor. Thereafter we expect that a determination is possible with a relative accuracy of 10 -a.…”

“…The lower NQCCs for HfS suggest that the former effect dominates. The ratio of the experimentally determined nuclear spinrotation constants, C I , for the two isotopic species, taken from [20] where µ m is the nuclear magnetic moment (45), and I is the nuclear spin. There is excellent agreement between these ratios.…”
