Ground Plane Contribution in Wireless Handheld Devices Using Radar Cross Section Analysis

Abstract: Abstract-The ground plane of wireless handheld devices plays a significant role in the electromagnetic behavior determining bandwidth, efficiency, and radiation patterns. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the frequency region where the ground plane can be better excited, especially for low frequencies where the performance of the radiating system is critical due to size limitations with respect to the operating wavelength. A fast method based on the radar cross section (RCS) is presented for computing th… Show more

“…As pointed out by several authors [12][13][14][15][16][17], the characteristic modes and scattering properties of an object are closely related. One can use insight in characteristic modes to calculate [16] or modify the scattering properties of an object [12][13][14][15], and vice versa [17].…”

“…The designs proposed in [5] and [13] have been contemplated in designing the present structure. The ground plane of these kind of antennas are an active participant in the radiation process [14]. To achieve broadband matching, a wide gap is set between the rectangular radiator and the ground plane.…”
