Ground-based vertical profile observations of atmospheric composition on the Tibetan Plateau (2017–2019)

Abstract: Abstract. The Tibet Plateau (TP) plays an essential role in modulating regional and global climate, and its influence on climate is affected also by human-related processes, including changes in atmospheric composition. However, observations of atmospheric composition, especially vertical profile observations, remain sparse and rare on the TP, due to extremely high altitude, topographical heterogeneity and grinding environment. Accordingly, the forcing and feedback of atmospheric composition from rapidly chang… Show more

“…Most of these observation networks are equipped with the CE318 (Cimel Electronique, France), an automatic multiband sun photometer that is used as the master and/or observation instrument to provide longterm data on aerosol microphysical, optical, and radiative characteristics at the global scale. These networks play an important role in determining the climatic and environmental effects of aerosols, especially in polar and plateau regions where robotic measurements may be a better choice due to the harsh climatic conditions and lack of manpower support, and their measurement results have been strictly verified under a wide range of conditions Eck et al, 1999;Xing et al, 2021a;Zhuang et al, 2017). As discussed in WMO-GAW report nos.…”
