We consider model problems for the tear film over multiple blink cycles that utilize a single equation for the tear film; the single nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) that governs the film thickness arises from lubrication theory. The two models that we consider arise from considering the absence of naturally occuring surfactant and the case when the surfactant is strongly affecting the surface tension. The film is considered on a time-varying domain length with specified film thickness and volume flux at each end; only one end of the domain is moving, which is analogous to the upper eyelid moving with each blink. Realistic lid motion from observed blinks is included in the model with end fluxes specified to more closely match the blink cycle than those previously reported. Numerical computations show quantitative agreement with in vivo tear film thickness measurements under partial blink conditions. A transition between periodic and nonperiodic solutions has been estimated as a function of closure fraction and this may be a criterion for what is effectively a full blink according to fluid dynamics.

Der Tränenapparat setzt sich zusammen aus der Tränendrüse (Glandula lacrimalis), in der die Tränen-flüssigkeit gebildet wird, und den ableitenden Tränen-wegen. TränendrüseAnatomie. Die Tränendrüse ist eine rein seröse, tubuloazinäre, konvex-konkav geformte und gelappte Drüse mit einer mittleren -interindividuell und geschlechtsspezifisch schwankenden -Größe von 20 × 12 × 5 mm. Sie ist i. d. R. symmetrisch angelegt [1, 2] und liegt extrakonal in der superolateralen Orbita in der Fossa glandulae lacrimalis des Os frontale, unmittelbar angrenzend an die Sehnen der Mm. recti superior et lateralis. Medialseitig wird sie durch die aponeurotische Sehne des M. levator palpebrae eingekerbt und damit in eine Pars orbitalis und Pars palpebralis eingeteilt [1, 3]. Die größere Pars orbitalis (60 -75% der Gesamtdrüse) [2] liegt dabei tiefer in der Orbita posterosuperior, die Pars palpebralis anteroinferior der Aponeurose des M. levator papebrae (Abb. 1). Die Drüse ist von extrakonalem Fettgewebe umgeben, nach lateral aber direkt mit dem orbitalen Periost über fibröse Faserzüge verbunden [2]. Als einzige orbitale Struktur mit lymphoiden Gewebsanteilen (immunologische Funktion der Tränenflüssigkeit) drainiert die Tränendrüse lymphatisch über die präaurikulären und parotidalen in die anterosuperiore Gruppe der tiefen Halslymphknoten. Funktionelle Aspekte. Die produzierte Tränenflüssig-keit schützt den vorderen Augenabschnitt zusammen mit den Sekreten der palpebralen Drüsen physikomechanisch (Vermeidung der Austrocknung der Kornea, Gleitfilm) und immunologisch [1, 3]. Die im oberen äußeren Quadranten produzierte Tränenflüs-sigkeit fließt über den Bindehautsack zum medialen Lidwinkel, wo die Tränenabflusswege beginnen. Die Pars orbitalis liegt posterosuperior, die Pars palpebralis anteroinferior der Aponeurose des M. levator palpebrae, die in der MRT visualisierbar ist. TränenwegeAnatomie.
