There is no uniformity in published works regarding the presence of sexual dimorphism in the morphology of the Corpus Callosum (CC), specifically splenium.Objective: The present study was conducted on formalin fixed preserved brains to get comprehensive data regarding gender related differences of CC.Materials and Methods: 50 formalin fixed human brains without apparent neuropathology were cut in the midsagittal plane. The various morphometric features of CC were measured and recorded on these midsagittal sections.The diameters measured were: (i) length of CC (AB), (ii) Width of body of CC at mid point (WBM), (iii) Maximum width of genu (AE), (iv) Maximum width of splenium (BD).Results: Mean values of two parameters (AB and AE) were greater in male than in female. However, 2 parameters (WMB and BD) had greater value in female than male. Only two parameters (AB and BD) showed statistically significant (p value < 0.05) gender differences.Conclusion: significant sexual dimorphism was observed in the longitudinal length of the CC, including morphology of the splenium. However, these gender related differences are more likely due to individual differences regardless of sex.

Advantages associated with the left ear (right brain hemisphere) have been reported in some studies. Of these, some have specifically suggested that the left ear has a more heightened ability to detect emotional tones. Meanwhile others have pointed to factors such as age and gender as potentially leading to manifestations of human laterality. This study investigates which brain hemisphere is more involved in emotional processing of auditory information in Arab participants. We aimed to replicate the previous studies because no single study has been done in the Arabic region previously. Additionally, people in this region prefer to use the right side of their body, e.g., hand, ear, foot, etc., for most daily tasks. To acquire data a dichotic listening task (DLT) was administered to 28 male and 23 female (Edinburgh, UK) university students aged 19 to 38; 13 were left-handed and 38 were right-handed. The results showed a significant left ear advantage in the auditory processing of emotional information. There was a significant negative correlation between ear preference and handedness. Left ear advantage related only to handedness. Thus right-handed participants were more likely than left-handers to have a left ear advantage. The relationship between ear preference and gender was non-significant. The conclusion that might be drawn from this study is that the left ear (right hemisphere) is more involved in emotional processing than the right ear (left hemisphere), especially for right-handed people.

BACKGROUND The Corpus Callosum (CC) can best be seen in the mid-sagittal section of brain both in cadaver and MRI. The morphometric measurements of the same will be of use in neurosurgical procedures. Sexual dimorphism and the age-related changes in its measurements remained controversial. Till date, no studies have been done on corpus callosum in Kerala. MATERIALS AND METHODS Measurements of CC has been taken and studied in detail in 24 formalin fixed brains from the Department of Anatomy and 48 MR images from the Department of Radiology. The changes according to age and sex were analysed. RESULTS The mean length of CC in the cadaver was 7.24 cm, which was 3.38 cm posterior to frontal pole and 5.73 cm anterior to occipital pole. In MR images, the mean length was 7.10 in males and 6.76 in females. The difference we got was not statistically significant. The length increased with age. Thickness of genu and body decreased as the age advances, but the splenial thickness was found to be increasing with age. There was significant correlation between the thicknesses of various parts of CC. CONCLUSION The values were almost similar to those in the previous studies. Morphometrically, a significant gender difference was not identified in the present study. There were changes according to age both in males and females.
